Help Light Up Herne Bay – Christmas Light Switch On 2026
Every year, our beautiful seaside town of Herne Bay comes together to celebrate the magic of Christmas — and in 2026, we want to make it bigger, brighter, and more magical than ever.
But we need your help.
The Herne Bay Christmas Light Switch On 2026 costs over £20,000 to organise and deliver. This much-loved community event is run entirely by a small team of dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly behind the scenes to bring festive joy to our town.
Only with your help, support and donations will we have Christmas lights in 2026!

Our 2026 switch on event will take place on Sunday 16 Nov from 1 pm to 6 pm.

Making it happen..
The Herne Bay Christmas Lights Team are a dedicated group of volunteers who work throughout the year, to fundraise and organise the lights display, operating as part of the Herne Bay Coastal Community Team.
The reality is that behind the scenes there are lots of costs involved in the magical display that you see during the festive period. Last year we purchased beautiful new lights and cross-overs through a three year deal with Gala Lights who erect, take down, store and maintain the lighting for us. In addition to this we have our beautiful Christmas trees and we are looking at a potential sustainable new option for our Wimereux Sq location. Along with this there is the costs of contractors to install and remove the trees and there are various insurances, planning permissions and other administration costs involved. This years commitment is approx. £20,000
To raise the money needed we need the support of Herne Bay residents and community groups to help us meet our financial commitments.
There are various ways you can help us reach our target. Donate if you can, attend our fundraising events, buy our Christmas cards, take part in our raffle. If we come together as a community we can continue to make sure that we light up Herne Bay in 2026 and beyond!
